Lead
Lead is a toxic heavy metal that was used for many years in products found in and around homes and buildings. In the past, lead was also used regularly in fuel, paint, ceramics, caulk, pipes, and solder among other things. Lead can also be emitted into the air from industrial sources and leaded aviation gasoline, and lead can enter drinking water from plumbing materials.
While many people worry about lead in their homes or in the environment, for some, the workplace may offer the greatest potential for exposure. Though used less often, NIOSH reports that lead is still common in many industries, including construction, mining, and manufacturing. In these and other industries, workers can be at risk of being exposed to lead by breathing it, ingesting it, or coming in contact with it.
Exposure to lead may cause a range of health effects, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities, to seizures and death. Although anyone can be at risk of lead poisoning, children six years old and under are most at risk.
VOETS has performed hundreds of lead-based paint (LBP) related projects and conducted lead sampling to comply with EPA\HUD, NYCHA, NYCDOH, HPD, OSHA, and other related guidelines for LBP sampling and monitoring. Commercial LBP Inspections and Risk Assessments are conducted using state-of-the-art XRF equipment (X-Ray technology) and industry standard sampling methodology by certified lead inspectors and risk assessors.
